My PATH…entered the world pink & screaming, like the rest of them, the first day of December in
I took my first photography class in high school; it was there that the seed of this love affair was planted. I continue to water and care for the soil as I attended every photography class that I could get my hands on in college. My favorite place to be during this time was working in the darkroom; there in the shadows and silence, my love for the art of photography bloomed.
My PASSIONS… rainbow tights, iced tea, baking cupcakes with flour on my hands, photographs that make me cry, a quiet moment with my favorite magazine, impromptu dance parties, faded polaroids and old-school photo booths, the smell of my daughter’s strawberry hair, holding hands, soaking up the sunshine, walking the streets of my St. Johns neighborhood, modern furniture, the color pink, watching my girl streak half-naked through the yard on a warm summer evening, a vase full of flowers on a vintage tablecloth, the surprise of hand written correspondence in my mail mailbox , counting my blessings, farmers markets, Chinese delivery, reminding my friends that they are special, salt bagels, expensive bedding, portraits that at once reveal everything and nothing, picking berries, vintage jewelry, Italian food, and living out loud.
My PHOTOGRAPHY...brings completeness to my life. I find the magic of a photograph is its ability to bring a vanished moment back to earth; the photo remains evidence that this memory exists. The beauty and value of portrait photography has been reignited within me since the birth to my greatest accomplishment: Frances Cate, in October of 2007. Her progression is moving and changing every day; I often wish I could reverse the hands of time and press play again. Of course the reality is you cannot, but you can create a running record of those you love through photos. I am preserving my life – and other lives - by the portraits I make because, like John Lennon , said: “Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.”
Photographing people is my true niche; to capture the spirit behind the eyes. It fills my heart to the brim to have the honor of working with families. Even after many years of making this art, I continue to feel immense joy when I am welcomed into people’s homes and lives…to take part as loving moments unfold and to be the photographer attempting to stop time.
My PROMISE…to take photos that will move you to feel emotion. Photos that will bring you back to the moment and allow you to relive it. Photos that reflect the legacy that you desire to leave. Is that not what life is about? Leaving your mark. I suppose that is how I am leaving my own mark. It is here. It is through my passion of this art called photography.
I promise to take photos that are true to my personal style, which is honest, insightful, comfortable, professional, unassuming and warm. I promise to want what you want. I promise to be a person who does not remember a time when she did not own a camera. I promise to be that photographer called: POSY.
